Things to Look for in a Well-Designed Window

Durability and aesthetic appeal—these are the two things that first come into mind when shopping for residential windows. However, these two qualities are by no means a strict guarantee that a window’s well-designed. There are other qualities you should look for in a well-designed window, such as:

High-Quality Materials

Of course, windows made from substandard materials are unlikely to be durable or have much visual impact. A window’s durability and visual impact are closely tied to the quality of the materials used to manufacture them, after all. The problem is since most manufacturers are now sourcing materials from overseas, quality control—and by extension gauging the quality of windows—has become more difficult.

Consistency in Window Performance

Just one faulty component can affect a window’s performance, which is why manufacturers need to be strict with manufacturing oversight. Centralized oversight or a top-bottom approach is essential to ensuring all of the windows coming from the manufacturing line have the same quality.

Customized Components and Design

There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach in home improvement projects, and window replacement projects are no exception. This doesn’t mean that the windows you buy off hardware store shelves are of low quality. It’s just that they might not be a great fit for your home. Remember: No two homes are alike, and as such, only custom windows are guaranteed to be a perfect fit for your home.
