Spring is the best time to get new residential windows, thanks to the season’s relatively mild weather conditions. If you have an upcoming window replacement project, tidying up your property a bit before the contractors arrive can help the window installation go more smoothly.
To help you prepare, here’s a checklist:
Trim Overgrown Trees
Your trees and shrubs will grow faster in spring, but you should only let them grow to a certain length, at least until your new windows are installed. Trim branches that might get in the way of contractors.
Clean Your Windows
Cleaning your windows will prevent dust and pollen from mixing with the caulk that will be used to seal your custom windows.
Remove Window Treatments
Remove curtains, blinds and other window treatments to prevent them from being damaged and getting in the way. Your contractor can assist you with this if you’re not able to do it yourself.
Remove Picture Frames on Your Walls
Remove picture frames and other ornaments from your wall and store them in a secure room, along with your other valuables, to keep them safe. As for your furniture, a professional contractor will take all the necessary precautions to minimize construction mess, including draping a tarp over your furniture.
Keep Your Pets in a Secure Place Away From the Worksite
Window replacement can get noisy, which is why you should move your pets away from the worksite. Loud noises can stress animals out, so if possible, have your pets stay with a friend or neighbor while the work is underway.
Deactivate Your Security System
Don’t forget to temporarily disable the sensors on your windows, if you have a security system installed.
